Some risks cannot be seen, but they have always been connected to the safety of our food.

A pond of water, a shrimp, and one sample may look like ordinary parts of daily work at an aquaculture site. During aquaculture production, however, pathogens may affect shrimp health and also influence farm management, food safety, and peace of mind at the dining table.

In the past, pathogen testing usually required samples to be sent to a laboratory. Professional equipment and trained personnel were needed for analysis, and people often had to wait for a period of time before knowing whether a sample carried a potential risk.

This June, the National Science and Technology Museum will launch the science outreach experience event “AI Pathogen Detection Technology Sharing.” Starting from the setting of an aquaculture site, the event will introduce portable pathogen detection devices and help visitors understand how samples from shrimp ponds or aquaculture farms enter the testing process. Through LAMP testing technology, AI image analysis, and mobile result viewing, visitors will see how smart agriculture can help people quickly identify pathogen risks on site.

The activity will use easy-to-understand displays and hands-on experiences to guide children and adults through the full process, from sampling and testing to interpretation and result feedback. Visitors will learn about the relationship between pathogen detection and food safety through everyday aquaculture scenarios. They will also see how technology can enter agricultural fields and support both industry and daily life.

Activity Highlights

Understanding Pathogen Detection at Shrimp Ponds
Using aquaculture as the main setting, the activity explains why on-site pathogen detection matters and why timely test results are important for aquaculture management and food safety.

Learning How LAMP Testing Works in the Field
Through a step-by-step process display, visitors will learn how LAMP, or loop-mediated isothermal amplification, supports on-site testing. They will also understand its features in testing time, equipment needs, and operation.

Understanding AI Image Analysis
The activity will introduce how AI helps identify testing images, organize and interpret results more quickly, and reduce possible errors from manual judgment.

Viewing Results on a Mobile Phone and Understanding Smart Agriculture Applications
Through the process of sampling, device testing, AI interpretation, and mobile result viewing, visitors will learn how smart agriculture turns testing data into useful information for field use.

Event Information

Date: June 6, 2026 (Saturday) – June 7, 2026 (Sunday)
Time: 10:00–12:00; 14:00–16:30
Location: B3F, Taiwan Agriculture Story Exhibition Hall, National Science and Technology Museum
Event Type: Science outreach experience activity
Suitable For: Families, general visitors, and anyone interested in agricultural technology and food safety

Registration

Online registration is required.
Please register through the museum website: Outreach Education Activity Registration.

Since available spots cannot be confirmed in advance, visitors on the waiting list should come to the activity site 10 minutes before the activity starts and wait for on-site registration.

Priority for waiting-list admission will be given to visitors who are registered on the online waiting list and are already present at the activity site.

The special exhibition RICE: Reborn takes Taiwan’s agricultural culture as its starting point, exploring the transformation of rice straw from agricultural waste into a resource for circular economy and cultural heritage. Featured works include Dr. Ming-Feng Wang’s innovative sandal designs that merge traditional craftsmanship with modern creativity, demonstrating the diverse potential of rice straw. His painting Lugang Danpu Trail is also displayed, offering an artistic perspective on the historical and cultural significance of Caotun, once known as “Straw Sandal Mound.” Through the intersection of craft and art, the exhibition envisions new values of rice straw in local revitalization, cultural creativity, and sustainability, inviting visitors to reflect on the connections between nature, culture, and future living.
